Litsea

Litsea grandis

a medium to large evergreen tree, typically found in tropical rainforests of Southeast Asia. It is characterized by its smooth, grayish bark, large, elliptical to oblong leaves with a glossy upper surface, and small, yellowish-white flowers that grow in clusters. The tree produces small, rounded fruits that turn dark purple or black when ripe. Litsea grandis is known for its durable wood and its traditional medicinal uses among local communities.  

Timber: The wood is valued for its strength and durability, used in local construction and for making tools. Traditional Medicine: Various parts of the tree, particularly the bark and leaves, are used in traditional medicine to treat ailments such as fever, skin conditions, and digestive problems.   It is believed to possess anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties. Ecological Benefits: Provides habitat for diverse wildlife. Contributes to the biodiversity of rainforest ecosystems. Aromatic properties: Some litsea species are used for their aromatic oils. Though less common with Litsea grandis, other litsea species are used in this way.
